ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

        

The University of Jammu and Kashmir was found-ed in the year 1948. In the year 1969 it was bi-furcated into two full-fledged Universities: Uni-versity of Kashmir at Srinagar and University of Jammu at Jammu. The University of Kashmir is situated at Hazratbal in Srinagar. It is flanked by the world famous Dal Lake on its eastern side and Nigeen Lake on the western side. The tranquil ambience of the Campus provides the right kind of atmosphere for serious study and research.

Over the Years University of Kashmir has expanded substantially. It has established Satellite Campuses at Anantnag (South Campus) , Baramulla (North Campus) and Kupwara (Kupwara Campus) to make higher edu-cation more accessible to people living in remote areas of Kashmir valley. The University has also established a Sub-Office at Jammu to cater to the needs of the candi-dates enrolled with the University from outside Kashmir.

The University is committed to provide an intellec-tually stimulating environment for productive learn-ing to enhance the educational, economic, scientific, business and cultural environment of the region. The University offers programmes in all the major faculties; Arts, Business & Management Studies, Education, Law, Applied Sciences & Technology, Biological Sci-ences, Physical & Material Sciences, Social Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Oriental Learning and Music & Fine Arts. It has been constantly introduc-ing innovative/ new programmes to cater to the needs and demands of the students and the society.

Over the years, the University has marched towards excellence in its programmes and activities. It has been re-accredited as Grade-A+ University by the National As-sessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India. This is recognition and reflection of the high standard of qual-ity in teaching and research at the University of Kashmir.

     

       

ABOUT THE KASHMIR

             

Kashmir is the northern most geographical re-gion of the Indian subcontinent. Kashmir’s blissful aura can never be expressed in words, Snowy glaciers, pristine lakes, picturesque mountains, dense forests, green meadow, gushing riv-ers everything about Kashmir is supremely beautiful.

Gulmarg, a popular skiing destination remains covered with snow throughout the year has the world’s second high-est operating cable car ride at height of 4390 . Gulmarg and Pahalgam are also home to adventurous sports like white water ra ing in summers and skiing in winters which creates adrenaline rush and thrill in venture seekers. Sona-marg the land of Gold Surrounded by Majestic glaciers and serene lakes caste subtle spells on the visitors.

The beauty of the valley can-not be described in words. It has to be seen to be cherished in the real sense of the word. It appears as if Mother Nature has blessed this valley with all her bounty and grandeur.
